How to wanderlust while stuck at home

If you guys are anything like us, this quarantine probably has your travel bug bothering you. Since being stuck at home, we have found a few creative things to do to satisfy our wanderlust and distract us from boredom. These activities are great to do by yourself and as a couple/family. Also, if you guys have been doing anything to wanderlust at home and it’s not listed, please let us know! We would love to try new things!

Scrapbooking

Scrolling through your Instagram or camera roll on your phone is what you may want to do when you’re feeling an itch to travel. However, we all know we’ve done that multiple times and it can get pretty repetitive. And I think I found the perfect solution for that. We all have that one grandmother or relative that has multiple photo albums full of those embarrassing baby pictures and milestone moments of your life. So, I thought to myself why not be that grandmother or relative and do things the “old school” way?

This past February, my Mom and Grandma came to visit us in Seattle. It was a special trip for them and extremely memorable therefor I wanted to make them something that meant a lot to them. I made a scrapbook/photo album for them and I found myself reliving all of these super special moments we had together, and it was incredible! It was such a different experience than scrolling through your phone to see all of these pictures. Printing photos and being creative with them was such a fun experience that I know I will continue doing these scrapbooks for future trips! I highly recommend going on Amazon and getting yourself a scrapbook album, some stickers, and go crazy with it! I personally printed my pictures through the Shutterfly app and got my photos delivered all for a reasonable price.

Video Montage

A video montage to me is almost like a digital scrapbook but a little more advanced. Most of us have many video clips from previous trips but never really done anything with them. This is a great time to pile up all of that unused footage and make a tiny movie from all of your favorite destinations! This is a great way to experiment with technology as well as be creative with editing and such. These videos are great to share with friends and family as well as for you to relive all of those wonderful and memorable trips.

POV Videos

Lately, we have seen a lot of these point of view (POV) videos pop up on our feed and it is what dreams are made of!!! POV videos are a great way submerge yourself in a place that might not be accessible to you at that moment. Many museums and theme parks are providing these videos for free on multiple social media outlets, most of them being on YouTube. I highly recommend checking these out if you’ve wanted visit museums overseas or ride the Matterhorn in Disneyland!

Plan your next trip

YES! Plan your next trip!!! Even though we can’t currently travel, there is nothing stopping you from planning that next dream trip. Right now, we have so much time to thoroughly plan future trips and save money if possible. Some ways to get creative with planning are:

· Create a mood board or journal the plans

· Print out pictures of destinations and sights to see

· Research prices and create a piggy bank

· Create a list of things to get for the trip

Travel TV Shows

We’re already watching TV so why not watch something that’s going to fulfill our travelling void. There are so many underrated travel TV shows out there that truly satisfy some of the wanderlust. One of the most popular shows being Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservation and the few more he hosted. If you are a subscriber, Hulu carries many episodes featuring many amazing destinations! These are great for inspiration for future destinations and pure entertainment as well. There are also certain Travel Channel shows that are up for your disposal for an inexpensive price or simply for free.

If you guys have been doing anything to cure your wanderlust that we did not list, please tag us on our Instagram, @thewanderandtravel, so we can try them out! Also, if you try any of these, tag us as well so we can repost them on our Instagram!
