The Ultimate ‘Twilight’ Itinerary

I am a Twihard and living in Washington does not help the obsession… it just feeds it. Although I have a pre-made Seattle itinerary up, which does contain a lot of Twilight destinations, I figured I could create an itinerary strictly for Twilight hotspots.

The Twilight Saga, which features the iconic love story between Edward Cullen, a shimmering vampire, and Bella Swan, a moody teenager going through an intense case of puberty, is based out of Forks, Washington. Forks is about a 2.5 hour drive away from Seattle and a beautiful scenic drive at that. However, the films were filmed between Oregon, Washington, and Vancouver, B.C.

If I were doing a Twilight adventure to find my very own glittery vampire from Hot Topic circa 2008, this is how I would do it. Disclaimers:

  • It is safe to say you will need to rent a car for this itinerary.

  • I am assuming your stay in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington.

  • This itinerary is pretty fast paced as I wanted to include as many locations as I could into a 5-day itinerary.

  • Although optional, I have added those Vancouver, B.C locations. Therefore, you will need a passport to cross the border. In addition, make sure you inform the rental car company about this day trip to Vancouver, B.C.

  • Lastly, if you find yourself face to face to a glittery vampire or werewolf, please do not approach. Call Charlie.

Day 1:

After landing in Portland, Oregon, the first full day should be spent tackling down the locations near the city.

First stop is the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The location is about an hour drive from Portland and here you will find the filming location of the iconic baseball scene. Cue Supermassive Black Hole by MUSE.

Located in the Columbia River Gorge, is the Multnomah Falls. These are the falls you see during the baseball scene as well. The waterfall is accessible from the Historic Columbia River Highway and Interstate 84.

The waterfall is seen in the background while Edward and Bella walk towards the field in which the baseball scene takes place. Thanks to these falls, the sound of them playing is muffled.

The Multnomah Falls is the most visited natural recreational are in the Pacific Northwest. Therefore, if you are planning on having the falls to yourself, I would recommend going really early in the morning.

After visiting the baseball scene location, you can have lunch at the one and only, Carver Cafe. This is the diner that Charlie and Bella always went to and is seen in a few scenes of the movie. You can order your burger with fries and pretend to squeeze out ketchup for your fries. (If you know…you know.) The Carver Cafe is about 50 minute drive from the falls.

To finish off the first day, you will visit the one and only Cullen’s house. Believe it or not, this is an actual house you can peak at. The home is located about 15 minutes from Portland. Although not used for the interior, the outside was used for the first Twilight movie before the decided to create a replica. DISCLAIMER! This house is occupied! It is a private home and therefore reserves the right of privacy. If I am not mistaken, the owners have signs and rules outside their home when it comes to approaching or photographing the home. Please keep this in mind when visiting.

For your convenience, I have mapped the entire itinerary with driving directions! You can view the entire trip by clicking here or scrolling to the bottom of this blog. However, here’s an overview of how the first day will look like.

Day 2:

Starting the day strong by visiting the high school they used to film the exterior of what is suppose to be “Forks High School.” Kalama High School is located in Kalama, WA. It was one of two high schools used for filming the Twilight Saga. However, this is the one used for that iconic scene in the parking lot when Edward saves Bella from being crushed. Please do not try to recreate the scene.

After visiting the high school, we are heading straight to the Swan’s residence.

Bella Swan’s house is located in St. Helens, Oregon. If you’re lucky enough, you might be able to stay in it! The owners have converted it into an AirBnb and have the entire place decorated just like the movies. However, it does comes with a hefty price at almost $400 a night. If you decide to do this itinerary with a group of friends, that price might be manageable divided by however many people are in your group.

The availability for this AirBnb is very limited. Currently, the house is fully booked 12 months in advance. Every first of the month at 9am PST, they open bookings for the month of the following year. However, keep in mind that stopping by and taking pictures in front of the house is also an option. For more information regarding the AirBnb, click here.

Last stops are optional but important on the list. St. Helens, which is the town that Bella’s house resides in, and Vernonia, Oregon are the towns used in place of Forks, Washington. Not much to see, but its where they filmed parts of the movies. If interested, check them out.

Day 3:

Although not a lot of stops today, it is a lot of driving. Today you will end in Seattle, because, as I mentioned, I’m assuming your stay in both Portland and Seattle.

Today the only stop will be Indian Beach which is located in the coast Oregon and about a 3 hour drive from Portland. This is the beach they filmed at in place of La Push Beach (La Push baby, it’s La Push), located in the Washington Coast (and included in this itinerary.) Near Indian Beach is Cannon Beach, one of my personal favorites, and a vacation hot spot. To get the most out of this beach day, I recommend getting there early plus having lunch at any of the amazing restaurants near the beach. It will be a long ride to Seattle, 4.5 hours to be exact, therefore I recommend leaving ahead of time. If you want to know about things to do in Seattle, check out the Seattle blog.

Day 4:

Today will be filled with all of the book locations. Starting in Seattle, which was featured in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn: Part 2 (film), the Olympic Peninsula will be the star of the day. First stop is Port Angeles which is located about 2 hours from Seattle. Port Angeles is home of the prom dress shopping scene, Edward and Bella’s first “date”, and many more. While here you can visit the “Bella Italia” where they had the date scene. Not sure if they have mushroom ravioli and the flirty waitress so let me know if they do down in the comments when you go.

Heading straight to the heart of it all, up next is Forks, Washington. Forks is located roughly about an hour away from Port Angeles. When getting into town you will see the famous “The City of Forks Welcomes You” sign featured in the first movie, Twilight. The city recognizes it’s popularity thanks to the Twilight Saga so rest assured your Twihard heart will be content by just visiting. I highly recommend stopping at the Forever Twilight “museum” to see all of the Twilight memorabilia. To learn more about Forever Twilight, click here. If you also stop at the Forks Chamber of Commerce, you will be able to see Bella’s truck! Both the one featured in the films and the other one described in the books.

Next stop is optional due to the fact that it will, first, take up a lot of your time, and second, you will sorta already experience the Olympic National Forest by driving through it so I don’t see it as a necessity. However, the Hoh Rainforest is heavily portrayed as general scenery in Twilight. If you want the extreme effect of being inside the Twilight films with all of the vibes, then visit the Hoh Rainforest. You won’t regret it. However, I would personally skip it and head to the final stop which is La Push.

Located about 30 minutes away from Forks, I honestly think La Push is every Twihard’s dream destination. Just hit play on Roslyn by Bon Iver and simply live out your Twilight fantasy. La Push is divided into three beaches but First Beach is the one featured in the book. Iconic scenery with immaculate vibes. Make sure to bring your rain coat as it does get chilly and rainy.

Day 5:

Last day on this itinerary is completely optional considering you would be visiting another country. However, Vancouver, B.C has a few more of the filming locations and it does make for a great day trip from Seattle. The drive to Vancouver is only about 2.5 hours from Seattle. Vancouver was used to film in place of Seattle to avoid the crowd. In addition, here you will find Jacob’s red house. However, disclaimer, the house is a bit rundown and not necessarily a great sight but still a place where the filmed. If you want to know about more thing to do in Vancouver B.C, check out the blog.

Additional Info:

Here is the complete map of the itinerary with driving directions.

All the featured locations are marked and under the description it will mention whether they were featured in the film, book, or both. Click here for the interactive map.

Honestly doing this itinerary at any time will make your Twilight dreams come true. However, my favorite time for this itinerary would be fall/winter to get all of the rainy and moody vibes.

If there are any other places I missed, please comment them down below because I’m always down for a Twilight road trip. I hope you use this itinerary and have all of your vampire love triangle fantasies come true.

Don’t forget to pack your books…and your apple.
