7 Things to do in Miami.
Spring Break is here and instead of me sharing a list of the most popular Spring Break destinations, because…let’s be honest… we know where the party is at; I decided to share my favorite things to do at the MOST popular Spring Break destination, Miami, Florida. And not only could you do these things during your spring break, but also during your random Miami trip any time of year.
1. Bayside
Bayside is a two-story open air marketplace that features shopping and dining. It is located by downtown Miami facing the Biscayne Banks. On top of shopping and dining, they do have live music daily and have an open-container policy. It’s a great place to hang out!
2. Little Havana
Little Havana is home to many Cuban exiles that fled their country for a better life in the states. It is named after the capital and the largest city in Cuba, Havana. Little Havana is also home of the famous festival, Calle Ocho Festival. It is a neighborhood rich with culture, food, music, and life. With it’s famous landmarks such as Calle Ocho and its Walk of Fame, it attracts millions of tourists from all around the world each year.
3. Everglades National Park
The Everglades National Park protects 20% of Florida’s Everglades. It is home of one of the most diverse biospheres in the United States. Mostly known for its mangroves and crocodiles, animals such as manatees and pythons make a large percentage of the population in the Everglades. I would recommend taking a guided airboat tour through the park to spot some of these animals and one of the most beautiful places in Florida. Browse Everglade tours here.
4. Oleta River State Park
If you are wanting to do SUP or kayaking away from the crowd, consider visiting the Oleta River State Park. The park is 1,043 acres state park on Biscayne Bay in the suburb of North Miami. You can rent out kayaks and/or SUP right at the park making it extremely convenient. Because it is away from downtown, the tourist crowds are much less compared to doing water sports at South Beach, for example. If you’ve had enough of the water, the park also has mountain biking. You can also rent out the bikes at the park.
5. North Miami Beach
Instead of going to South Beach, I would highly recommend to go to North Beach instead. Although it’s on the same “beach line” as South Beach, it is significantly less crowded and, in my opinion, prettier swimming water. Because of the excessive crowd in South Beach, the water gets to get murky and dirty pretty quickly. At North Beach, you have less foot traffic, making it more enjoyable to swim in.
6. Ocean Drive
Although a typical stop, I do recommend coming here at least once during your trip and especially at sunset/night time. It is your famous Miami post card place with many dining options and nightlife. Keep in mind, you are dining here, most restaurants charge a “tourist fee.” If you are worried about this fee, simply ask the restaurant how much their fee is, if there is one.
7. Wynwood Walls
The Wynwood Walls are an outdoor museum that features street art from many artists. Not only is this a great sight seeing spot but also a great photo op. The Wynwood Walls Museum which includes over 35 hand-sprayed murals, two street-art galleries, and retail shops. The admission ticket is $12 per person. However, they do offer private and/or guided tours for an additional cost. For more information, please visit https://museum.thewynwoodwalls.com/main .
