I don’t check bags.

Are you a fellow traveler who cringes at the mere thought of checking in luggage? Do you find yourself navigating the airport with only your trusty carry-on in tow, bypassing the dreaded baggage claim carousel with a sense of triumph? Well, my friend, you're not alone. For me, the idea of checking bags is something I try to avoid at all possibilities. And here's why.

  1. The Fear of Losing Belongings:

Picture this: you're eagerly waiting at your destination airport, excited to embark on your adventure, only to be met with the sinking realization that your luggage is nowhere to be found. It's a nightmare scenario that many travelers dread, and unfortunately, it's not entirely uncommon. Airlines and airports are, after all, fallible human institutions prone to errors. Baggage can get misrouted, misplaced, or even lost in transit, leaving you stranded without your essentials. The mere thought of losing my belongings in this way is enough to make me break out in a cold sweat.

  2. Theft Concerns

Another unsettling aspect of checking bags is the unsettling possibility of theft. While instances of theft are relatively rare, they do occur, and the consequences can be devastating. Whether it's valuable electronics, irreplaceable souvenirs, or essential items, the thought of someone rummaging through my belongings and helping themselves to whatever catches their eye is enough to make me clutch my carry-on even tighter.

  3. Emergency Preparedness:

Life is unpredictable, and emergencies can arise when we least expect them. From sudden flight cancellations to unexpected layovers, there are countless scenarios where having access to your belongings can make all the difference. When you're reliant on checked luggage, you relinquish a certain degree of control over your situation, leaving you vulnerable in times of need.

But what if you absolutely must check a bag? Perhaps you're traveling with oversized items or bulky equipment that simply won't fit in the overhead compartment. In these instances, I refuse to go without a fail-safe solution: AirTags.

AirTags, Apple's nifty tracking devices, have become my go-to travel accessory for peace of mind. These compact little gadgets can be discreetly slipped into your luggage, allowing you to keep tabs on its whereabouts at all times. Whether it's nestled in the cargo hold of a plane or making its way through the labyrinthine corridors of an airport, I can rest easy knowing that I have eyes on my belongings every step of the way.

The beauty of AirTags lies in their simplicity. Once attached to your luggage, they seamlessly integrate with your Apple devices, allowing you to track their location with pinpoint accuracy using the Find My app. Should your bag go astray, you'll receive real-time updates on its last known whereabouts, helping you navigate the labyrinth of airport bureaucracy with ease.

Of course, AirTags aren't foolproof, and they're certainly not a substitute for responsible travel practices. It's essential to exercise caution and take proactive steps to safeguard your belongings, whether you're checking bags or traveling with carry-on only. From investing in sturdy luggage locks to keeping a detailed inventory of your possessions, there are plenty of measures you can take to minimize the risk of loss or theft.

So the next time you find yourself faced with the decision to check or carry-on, remember this: while checking bags may offer convenience in some situations, it also comes with its fair share of risks. By arming yourself with the right tools and adopting a proactive approach to travel security, you can enjoy peace of mind knowing that your belongings are always within reach, no matter where your adventures take you. As for me, I'll be sticking to my carry-on — AirTag included, of course.
